Campaign launch photo - Averil Power & Norah CaseyBroadcaster, author and publisher Norah Casey has launched the general election campaign of Independent Senator Averil Power in Howth.

Norah presented Averil with an Irish Tatler ‘Woman Of The Year’ Award last year for her work on the marriage equality campaign. She is also a strong advocate for greater female representation in politics.

Speaking at the launch, Norah said “I have never launched an election campaign before but I am proud to do so for Averil. She is an inspiration and a great role model for other women. She also has the courage of her convictions and is prepared to fight for what is right. She has made a big impact in the Seanad and I really hope she is elected to the Dáil.”

Averil said she is delighted to have such a successful businesswoman launch her campaign and is optimistic of winning a Dáil seat in the forthcoming election.

“This is a very competitive constituency but I am canvassing every night and am getting a great response on the doors”, she said. “People know me and are aware of my work on issues such as mental health, education, marriage equality and adoption rights.

“They know that by electing me Dublin Bay North will not only have a strong Independent TD, it will also have someone with a proven track record of delivering positive change locally and nationally”, Averil concluded.
