UPDATE ON DUBLIN PORT’S PROPOSAL TO DUMP 10 MILLION TONNES OF TOXIC WASTE IN THE BAY NEAR HOWTH

0
The EPA has informed me that it has decided not to issue Dublin Port with a licence to dump 10 million tonnes of dredge waste in the bay beside Howth without further investigation into the impact the proposed dumping would have on wildlife in the area. I objected to the licence as I am concerned that dumping this material so close to the coastline may lead to it washing back towards the shore, ending up on our beaches and exacerbating the silting problems near Bull Island. To avoid these problems the waste should be dumped further out to sea.
